Tree Graffiti

Someone left a few mark on this tree in Ann Morrison Park. I think the date is 10-12-05. Not sure what the rest of it says. EZ-DIN?

Carving initials, love notes, travel directions and astronomy notes into tree trunks are part of a long history, although it’s discouraged now. Those historical cuts are called, “arboglyphs.”

Deep cuts can damage a tree’s vascular system. Usually, the cuts are superficial, like these.

The tree is next to the Boise Parks and Recreation office parking lot.
